Before Our Collaboration
Beaumaris is a bustling suburb in Victoria that has had more and more foot traffic over the years. The town is quaint, but it’s also bursting with potential, especially for new and exciting commercial spaces.
One of these is a fresh new cafe looking to stand out not just by serving top-notch coffee. From the beginning, the client wanted to create an environment that draws people in and keeps them coming back. Serving good coffee wasn’t going to cut through the competitive landscape.
So, our client, a cafe owner, thought it wise to include something no other cafe has – an artificial green ceiling. They researched high and low to find the best value for money and the fauxliege that fit their industrial ceiling.
Luckily, they found our collection of vibrant artificial hanging plants.
The Problem
Before opening the cafe, the client knew their space had to make an impact—a warm, inviting aesthetic that would make customers linger. Like other owners, they knew they had to dedicate a significant amount of time to decorating and the overall appearance of the space.
But despite their desires, their interior design hit a snag with the colourbond ceiling.
This plain, industrial-style ceiling might have been functional, but it didn’t do anything for the vibe they were aiming for.
When customers come in for a relaxing cup of coffee, they want to feel warm and cosy – not like they’re sitting under a tin roof. The client needed a creative, visually engaging solution that wouldn’t have them tearing down their ceiling.
And so, they chose artificial hanging plants.
During the Process
We began with a conversation to understand the client’s needs and aesthetic goals. They wanted a ceiling that felt lush and alive – the kind of space that makes people stop and snap a photo.
While the client had a vision, they did first consider real plants. However, after some much-needed discussion with the employees and the crew, they determined that the time, effort, and cost of maintaining live greenery were too much for a busy café.
They also wanted the design to be practical. A custom-built real plant ceiling would’ve required special watering systems, constant care, and added weight that their ceiling wasn’t built to handle.
When we suggested the alternative – an artificial green ceiling, the client thought it would be just what they needed.
We introduced the client to our premium range of artificial ceiling plants, focusing on the Green Tropics Garden UV stabilised panels for a rich, tropical base. These panels are designed to mimic the dense look of natural foliage, making them perfect for covering larger areas.
To add dimension and movement, we suggested the Long Two-Tone Ivy Garland, which drapes beautifully and creates the illusion of real vines. This mix of textures and greenery gave the ceiling a more dynamic and natural appearance.
The Solution
With the products chosen, we moved into planning. A project like this isn’t a simple “stick it and forget it” job.
The panels and garlands needed to be securely fastened to the colourbond ceiling without damaging it. Plus, we had to ensure the overall design looked cohesive from every angle.
After putting together a comprehensive plan, our installation team arrived ready to tackle the challenge. The Green Tropics Garden panels were the first to go up, creating a dense, leafy backdrop for the rest of the design. Each panel was carefully positioned and secured to ensure there were no gaps or inconsistencies in between.
Next came the Long Two-Tone Ivy Garland. These were placed to drape over tables, creating an immersive “jungle” or curtain effect for customers sitting below. The garlands added texture and variety, ensuring the ceiling didn’t look flat and monotonous.
We paid close attention to how the foliage flowed together, making adjustments on the fly so that the final design felt organic and balanced. The result was a lush, layered green ceiling display that looked like a living, breathing jungle – even though it’s completely maintenance-free.
Thanks to careful planning and high-quality materials, the entire installation went off without a hitch. The lightweight nature of the panels and garlands meant no added stress on the existing ceiling structure, and our team completed the job on schedule.
After the Process
The transformation looked wonderful and met our client’s requirements. The once-drab colourbond ceiling now boasted a rich canopy of artificial hanging plants. In turn, the café revelled in a vibrant, inviting ambience.
Both customers and employees were now looking up to (and getting distracted by) the artificial green ceiling.
The gaps in between the fauxliege were intentional to ensure the ceiling looked as natural as possible. Having these irregularities supports the “natural growth” aesthetic we were after and pleases our client.
